Note: To mark the end of the Lenten Season, I wrote this poem (few years back) as my ‘offering’ for Easter Sunday, or what we, Filipinos, call as “Salubong ” (in Iluko/Ilocano, “Sabet”).
The last drop of tear has fallen-
Did time and space stand still?
Did the universe give out
a sigh of relief?
I didn’t know.
I have been grieving for
my demise; my soul was
lamenting for my
death.
I’ve seen heaven through
the eyes of hell, while I
was a living blind.
I heard the urgent echoes of
a pleading sigh- but still I
took my time and
I died-
long before
you raised the cup and
drank my misery.
I have been dead before you
perished- but your last
breath was my
redemption.
